Tess Marschner

Born in Berlin in 1989, Tess Marschner grew up and trained as a photo designer (2013) before going on to study photography at the HGB Leipzig. During her studies, she developed several performances, a radio play and the theatre play ‘Just A Circlusion’ at the Lofft Leipzig with the collective HAZY BORDERS. Her interest in moving images intensified during an Erasmus semester at UNARTE Bucharest (2020). After graduating (2023), she spent a 6-month residency at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona (2024). There she created the video ‘HeLa et al.’, which was shown at the Kassel Dokfest, Kurzsuechtig Leipzig and Filmfest Dresden, among others.
In her work, she explores how scientific and theoretical knowledge shapes and changes social relationships. Her focus is on feminist, non-human and animal actors.
