Silicon Saxony

DE 2026

Silicon Saxony follows the trail of a tiny silicon crystal through the past and present to the newly emerging ESMC factory near Dresden, where Taiwanese and German partners are now looking to the future. As excavators remove layer after layer, the film reveals another story: the same site was once home to the microelectronics industry of the GDR, and with it a different vision of technology in the service of a free society. A buried idea that continues to vibrate in the ground.
