Steven Rowell

Steven Rowell is an artist and researcher based in Los Angeles and Berlin, working with photography as well as with audio and video recordings captured in the field. He examines technology and infrastructure on, beneath, and above the landscape, contextualizing the built and the natural environment, appropriating the methods and tools of the geographer. In addition to his own practice he collaborates with The Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI), SIMPARCH, and The Office of Experiments.
As part of CLUI, Rowell's work has been exhibited internationally including: The 2006 Whitney Biennial, New York; Yerba Buena Center for The Arts, San Francisco; LACMA, Los Angeles; and The Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC; and IBID Projects, London. 2010 exhibitions/events include: the Ultimate High Ground Global Map, Theater of Peace group show, NGBK Berlin, Playas Town Site for The Atrocity Exhibition group show, Galerie Feinkost, Berlin; and a HaSS fellowship at Newcastle University.
