Sergei Eisenstein

1898

The Soviet director, film theorist, and writer Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (1898–1948) is known, for example, for his film October (1928) about the Russian Revolution of 1917. Eisenstein was deeply committed to Marxism. While his early works were influenced by the Communist Party's program, his later works were censored, such as Que Viva Mexico. Eisenstein's style is characterized by short, powerful narratives and film montages in the style of agitprop.
