Maja Gehrig

Maja Gehrig attended the preliminary design course at Zurich University of the Arts (now ZHdK) from 1999 to 2000. She then studied media art for two years at Aarau University of Applied Sciences, followed by an internship at Eesti Joonisfilm in Tallinn, Estonia. From 2003 to 2005, she completed a bachelor's degree in animation at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design & Art. Her bachelor's thesis film, Une nuit blanche, was awarded the Suissimage/SSA Young Talent Award at the Solothurn Film Festival.

From 2006 to 2011, she was curator at Artspace Rondeel Maastrich ARM in the Netherlands, where she also realised installations and performances. In 2011, she founded the production company Gehrig Trick & Sohn, based in Zurich.

Her animated films Amourette (2009), Königin Po (2015) and Average Happiness (2019) have been shown at numerous festivals in Switzerland and abroad and have won several awards. For the latter, she received the Swiss Film Award in the Best Animated Film category in 2020.
