What can artistic perspectives make visible that pure data and facts cannot convey? Can art and technology work together to develop new forms of communication, empathy, connection and responsibility for our environment? In the Betonhalle and the transmediale studio, 11 works will be presented that were created as part of the Europe-wide residency programs of the European Media Art Platform (EMAP).

The group exhibition presents artistic works by Tatsuru Arai & Boris Vaitovič, Carl Emil Carlsen, Bethan Hughes, Juliane Jaschnow & Stefanie Schroeder, masharu, Ali Akbar Mehta, Davor Sanvincenti, Studio Above&Below, Transformative Narratives, Endi Tupja & Klodiana Millona and Marc Vilanova. They deal with fundamental issues of our time: ecological sustainability, socio-ecological justice and technological change.

The artists work in a transdisciplinary and collaborative manner and combine art, science and technology in an innovative way. In their acoustic experiments, immersive landscapes and speculative visions of the future, they explore the complex relationships between humans, technology and the environment. Their approaches are diverse, ranging from data visualization and experimental documentary film to sound sculpture, performance, video and interactive VR installations. Each work opens up new perspectives on the dynamics of our ecosystems and encourages reflection on the far-reaching consequences of human activity on the environment.

On view as part of the exhibition is Purgatory EDIT - the interactive cyber-based performance with Ali Akbar Mehta, EMAP fellow at Werkleitz 2024.

10.-19.1. @ transmediale studio
Purgatory EDIT offers the opportunity to take part in an interactive cyber-based performance every day. This lasts approx. 45-60 minutes and enables a 1:1 interaction with the installation using EEG headgear and XR glasses.
