In conjunction with the presentation of the work CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, Christoph Wachter and Mathias Jud will be offering this three-day workshop during the festival. Asylum has quickly become a subject of great political importance. Heated debates lead to revealing classifications and labels (friend-enemy, criminal-victim, citizen-refugee, legal-illegal, etc.). Instead of endlessly repeating these categories, the workshop examines the situation from a different perspective. Using the strict marginalization of asylum seekers in Australia as a direct point of comparison, a completely new view is created. The workshop’s focus is not a legal, social or political assessment of the current situation, rather artistic strategies are utilized. Specific questions and tools expand one’s possibilities of perception in order to overcome societal and political divisions. The workshop is intended for different actors from the fields of politics and art and for beginners or anyone else interested in the subject. Emphasis is placed on practical work methods that require no previous knowledge or experience.

The workshop is sponsored by the Agency for Civic Education of the state of Sachsen-Anhalt.
