Wettbewerb im Mansfeld Kombinat
DDR 1959
Media
Leading up to the 15th anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism on 8 May 1960, the employees of the Mansfeld Combine Wilhelm Pieck wanted to present an Ernst Thälmann monument to the city of Pushkin south of Leningrad. In order to finance this gesture of friendship to the “great Soviet people”, planning targets were to be exceeded by means of a socialist competition. The report for Aktuelle Kamera places the project in the context of the long proletarian struggle against “capitalist oppressors”. The report shows a visit to Otto Brosowski’s son and widow in Gerbstedt. Brosowski once saved the red flag of Krivoy Rog – a symbol of the communist movement in Mansfeld Land – from “the claws of the Nazis”.
