Johannes Krell

Krell is a filmmaker and author based in Leipzig. He studied Audiovisual Media with a focus on cinematography in Berlin and completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne with his graduation film Umbra. He creates experimental and installation works as well as music and short films and was a participant in PMMC 2013. For Kaltes Tal, he was awarded the German Short Film Award in 2016 together with Florian Fischer. In his artistic practice, he explores the intersections between subjective perception and the representational possibilities of audiovisual media.
We selected Johannes Krell together with Florian Fischer as Supported Artists in 2019. Their production UMBRA (DE, 2019) was awarded the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 69th Berlinale in 2019.
