Joachim Kühn
Founded REAL FICTION Filmverleih in Cologne in 1996 with the main aim of bringing documentary films to cinemas in Germany. The name of the distribution company says it all. Following the example of other genre designations such as science fiction, the distribution company aims to bring documentary films to cinemas whose form is strongly influenced by elements of feature films. It is also important that the directors work clearly with expressive cinematic stylistic devices. Examples of this are ‘Elsewhere’ by Nikolaus Geyrhalter, “Derrida” by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Kofman, and ‘Workingman's Death’ by Michael Glawogger, winner of the German Film Award for Best Documentary Film in 2007. REAL FICTION also takes on feature films by directors who predominantly make documentaries or whose films have a documentary character. Current examples of this are ‘Das Fräulein’ by Andrea Staka and ‘El Custodio – Der Leibwächter’ by Rodrigo Moreno.
