Die Frankfurter Küche

DE 1927

In 1925, Frankfurt adopted a housing programme by the director of urban development Ernst May, in succession 12.000 housing units where created in only five years. In order to document and promote the industrial design and functional features of the flats in the connected settlements, the „Frankfurter Hochbauamt“ commissioned a number of short films: Die Häuserfabrik der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, Die Frankfurter Kleinstwohnung und Die Frankfurter Küche. The last one shows the advantages of a kitchen made by the Vienna-based architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, which is classified as the prototype of modern built-in kitchen and which puts industrial efficiency scales into female housework.
