Das Märkische Viertel – Aussichten und Einblicke

BRD 1973

Das Märkische Viertel – Aussichten und Einblicke is a reaction of Berlin’s press and information office and the senator for building and housing to the criticism against the Märkisches Viertel. The reply in beautiful images, filled with happy people and music from Oskar Sala, analyses the development of the satellite city in a comparatively critical way. The initial absence of stores, schools and green places is openly admitted. The architekt and city planner Werner Düttmann highlights the meaning of the self-help initiative run by the inhabitants, which could have achieved an identification of the citizens. The film ends with the prospective of a new multi-purpose centre, a swimming hall and a direct underground train station, which never got constructed.
