Nachruf Birgit Hein

We bid farewell to our founding member Birgit Hein, who passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023 at the age of 80.

Birgit Hein was one of the most important representatives of the German experimental film scene and, in addition to her film work, also a film and art scholar, professor of the film class at the HBK Braunschweig from 1990 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2021 deputy director of the Visual Arts Section of the Academy of Arts Berlin.
At Werkleitz, she was instrumental in inspiring the founding of the Werkleitz Festival/Biennial, represented at the Festival/Biennial in 1993 with the Kali films and in 1996 with Rohfilm, and was a guest at the Professional Media Master Class on several occasions.

We mourn the loss of one of the most radical and committed voices in the German film and art landscape and one of the great inspirations for Werkleitz.
