Werkleitz opens the festival center in the former printing and publishing workshop and offices at Leipziger Str. 61–62.The historical group of Jugendstil buildings was contructed in 1911 as the headquarters of the Hallesche Zeitung in a prominent location on Riebeckplatz. In 1946 the space was given to the newspaper Neuer Weg, the party organ of the East German section of the Christian Democratic Union. The daily newspaper ceased publication and since 1992 the machine rooms and publishing offices – striking remnants of the media industry’s first golden age – have stood empty.
