Starting in 2024, the Spring School will take place as an annual interactive workshop format organized by the Agentur für Aufbruch (AfA). In conversation with local actors, students from Martin Luther University and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design gain insights into subjective experiences and collective practices in the region. In interdisciplinary collaboration, Spring School participants transform their on-site portraits of people and their places of life and work into a magazine that is presented to the public. The Spring School combines methods of writing and photography.
In 2025, we will focus on the natural resources of water and soil. To this end, we are looking for portraits of upheavals and changes in the Mansfeld region. The decline of mining has had a lasting impact on its landscape and natural resources. So how are the soils and waters faring, and how do they influence each other? What legacy issues continue to have an impact today? How fertile is the reddish soil for agriculture? Who owns the soil and who has control over it? What does it look like underground? Where does the drinking water for Hettstedt and Co. come from? How do we deal with heavy rainfall or drought?
