Neu-Neustadtmodell

In 2004, Kulturblock called on the residents of Halle-Neustadt to collect everyday objects. Over the past ten years, numerous items that were once useful, photos, and souvenirs from Neustadt have been donated by residents or friends of Neustadt. The collection began with items found in bulky waste piles: colorful thermos flasks, bread slicers, photos, and postcards. Conversations were struck up with local residents about what had already been found, and they immediately knew what could be added, resulting in a series of special gifts relating to Neustadt's history. In the fall of 2006, Maike Fraas and Daniel Herrmann created the Neu-Neustadtmodell (New Neustadt Model), their first interpretation of the Nachweis für Besiedlung (Evidence of Settlement) collection. After spending days taping off the street and road network of Neustadt, they began to assemble the city's distinctive buildings in the model. Two poodles represent the “Krumme Hund” (Richard-Paulick-Straße), a row of lemonade and beer bottles forms the “Weißen Riesen” (Block 10, at the Gastronom), detergent packages are eleven-story buildings, and clothes hangers form the curve of the closed five-story development in Südpark. Culturtraeger and Werkleitz are publishing a 12-part postcard edition with a view of the Neu-Neustadt model (http://werkleitz.de/12-teilige-postkartenedition) in 2014 on the occasion of the exhibition project Nachweis für Besiedlung (Proof of Settlement).
