Fuel-forage-food. This is the common rule of three describing the conflict over the distribution of agricultural production: Fuel for machines, feed for animals, or food for people. Facing the social debate about ways out of the energy crisis, the Werkleitz Festival 2024 (Fuel or Food) aims to take a fresh look at this conflict.
The starting point and core region for this examination is the area in the vicinity of Halle, which is characterized by agriculture, industry and mining in equal measure. The exhibition at the Festival Center in the heart of Halle combines artistic and scientific perspectives from different times and places to provide an introduction to the topic. The film program curated by Florian Wüst expands this framework with international artistic positions and audience discussions with the filmmakers. The excursions lead to agricultural research locations in Halle and the surrounding area. The two-day symposium serves as a forum for discussions about current films, screenplays and research on the context of fuel or food.
