T-Shirt mit funktionierender Novalis-Sonnenuhr

DE 2026

The former Dominican convent church in Oberwiederstedt was built in the second half of the 13th century. The elongated, single-nave structure with a west tower in front is an example of a type of Gothic convent church with a western nuns’ gallery that is rare in central Germany. The eastern part of the church was converted into a granary following the secularization of the convent at the end of the 15th century. Georg Friedrich von Hardenberg, known as Novalis, was baptized in the western parish church in 1772. The granary is now used by the Novalis Baptismal Church Association for exhibitions, readings, and concerts. During the renovation work currently underway on the granary of the Novalis Baptismal Church, a weathered sundial from 1741, now only faintly recognizable, was discovered. It is believed that Novalis’s grandfather had this sundial installed. The plan is to carefully preserve these weathered remains as a “blurred reminiscence.” Sales of the T-shirt at the upcoming summer festival will financially support the restoration of the sundial, thereby involving the villagers in the effort.
