On the edge

Josephine Rollinger created this photographic artwork last year as part of her final practical art project for her degree at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. In this project, she explored found and forgotten amateur photographs that she had collected at flea markets and second-hand shops. Asking questions such as what actually remains of a person and a life after their death, what happens to captured memories, and how this unfamiliar material can be used to make collective memories and experiences visible once more, she painted, collaged or edited the original images using a craft scalpel. She then presented some of the originals or prints of the originals in an exhibition.
