Identity politics has become a loaded term. For some, calls to reform language are disconnected from people’s lived realities and even distract from the struggle for equal opportunities. For others, language shapes the world we inhabit and must therefore be transformed if the world itself is to change. Karoline Rößler takes on a subject capable of dividing families and societies alike. She invites us into a conversation with her father about gender-inclusive language, racist terminology, and the experience of walking home alone as a woman.
