Gen Ginnungagap

Gen Ginnungagap is a tribute to the Halle-based poet Wilhelm Bartsch and his collection of poems Hohe See und niemands Land (High Seas and No Man’s Land), featuring inscribed quotations. Like the poetry collection, the polyptych is an adventurous journey to the end of the world. In this work, two generations reach out to one another. At the same time, for Christoph Liedtke it also symbolises the inexorable flow of time, linked to catastrophe as an intrinsic element. For him, the catastrophic also represents a kind of matrix of painting and is the driving force behind creation.
