Three bodies stand side by side. Under a gaze as penetrating as a thermal imaging camera, bones, organs and skin become visible simultaneously. The body is the sum of all the traces that time has left within it. In the moment when the invisible and the visible overlap, we encounter the full depth of the time a person has lived. In Hyun Jeongyun’s work, embroidery is far more than a technique. The repeated movement of the needle through the fabric, the accumulation of this silent labour — all of this is physically and irrevocably inscribed into the surface of the work. Embroidery is itself already a vessel of time.
