Bed I und Bed II aus der Serie Retrack Nature

DE 2024

Who has walked across the snow, who has lain down in the grass – what can be seen? Exploring these questions and linking the information gleaned from what is seen with our imagination of what remains unseen is the starting point for tracking. Tracking is a practice of locating wild animals without letting them know you are there. It is a process of systematising (mostly) visual information, which provides insight into the animals’ behaviour and communication. The imprints shown (the name refers to both the printing process and the content) isolate the moments of their behaviour, which are primarily fleeting. Tracking is an ongoing process that broadens one’s perspective on the animal, and even more so, on the environment, on ‘nature’. A transcendence that attempts to overcome the alienation between humans and nature. A process that links the information of the seen with the imagination of the unseen. Photography as a description of a fleeting state: a documentary of what was present just a moment ago, yet only recognisable to the extent that knowledge of the possible exists.
