almoust – never – still – hold is a series of plaster objects that attempts to make time visible at the very moment it solidifies. Plaster is a material that changes from liquid to solid within a short space of time – a process in which time itself is inscribed. By holding the plaster whilst it sets, Clara Pistner creates a negative of what is held: the form of the interior space, which otherwise remains invisible. The works explore the relationship between inside and outside, presence and absence. They preserve the fleeting moment of holding and manifest it as a sculptural snapshot, a fragment of time that normally exists only as movement. The objects thus become physical traces of a brief, intangible state and reflect the impossibility of preserving a moment.
