Susann Maria Hempel

The work of Susann Maria Hempel particularly stands out due to the exceptional combination of documentary, fictional and experimental styles. Despite the great variety of the applied techniques, all these mixtures of styles are distinctive for Susann Maria Hempel’s artistic work.
The young talent, who was born in Greiz, is the first artist from the region of Mitteldeutschland within the Werkleitz Supported Artist programme.

In celebration of the Supported Artist title, Werkleitz is happy to present one of her short films in our Videorama series. The Flies (The Birds II) is a tribute to Oskar Sala, a pioneer for electronic music who was also born in Greiz. Sala was especially famous for his experimental sound design of Hitchcock’s masterpiece The Birds (US, 1963).
