Maria Morata

(Madrid, 1970) Independent curator, researcher. Guest lecturer at various universities and educational institutions in the fields of film, new media and art. Curator of exhibitions in the fields of film, new media and visual arts for museums and art institutions such as Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art in Berlin, CCCB and MACBA and Centre Ars Santa Monica in Barcelona, Intermediae-Matadero and La Casa Encendida in Madrid, Sterischer Herbst in Graz, Impakt Center in Utrecht and Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània in Valencia. Publications in catalogues and specialist journals. Speaker and lecturer for various symposia and artistic events in museums and art spaces. Since 2009, member of the selection committee for the Berlinale Shorts section of the Berlin International Film Festival. In her long-term research, she investigates the relationship between media technology and human and non-human actors, decentralising anthropocentric positions. She is currently researching physical encounters with technical medical devices from a queer and criminal perspective. Since 2019, she has been an active member of the artistic collective Sickness Affinity Group. In 2020, she founded the art and education collective cripxcess with artist Lorenzo Galgó. She lives between Madrid and Berlin.
