Konrad Korabiewski
Polish-Danish-Icelandic experimental, sound and media artist Konrad Korabiewski has received international acclaim and currently lives in eastern Iceland. His work, characterised by its cross-genre and cross-media approach, encompasses sound art, film music, installations, radio, video and multimedia, and has a strong site-specific element. Korabiewski's musical atmosphere is dark and intense, demonstrating a keen awareness of musical space; at times meditative in character, distortion expresses an emotional depth that demands and elicits attentive listening in minimalist soundscapes. Korabiewski has received international awards and scholarships; he was awarded the Science Prize and a working scholarship from the prestigious DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Programme in 2014 and nominated for two media art prizes: the European Sound Art Award (formerly the German Sound Art Prize) and the Marler Video Art Prize. Korabiewski holds a master's degree in electronic music composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. He is the founder and current director of Skálar | Sound Art | Experimental Music in Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland. Korabiewski works as a freelance curator and as a research assistant in the Digital Media Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has also been a member of the Danish Composers' Society since 2004.
