Gregory Gan, Dr.
Dr Gregory Gan is a visual anthropologist whose work focuses on the afterlife of socialist architecture. In his current project, Gregory explores how different materials, meanings and effects are reinvented, reclaimed or re-evaluated over time. As part of his visual anthropological work, he has directed three ethnographic feature films: Turning Back the Waves (2010, 96 minutes), Theory of Happiness (2014, 82 minutes) and Empathy for Concrete Things (2024, 61 minutes). He has also exhibited multimedia installations and watercolours in solo and group exhibitions. Gregory is a research associate at the Just Transition Centre at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
