Dr. Rubaica Jaliwala
Rubaica Jaliwala, born in Mumbai, India, in 1972, currently lives in Berlin. She received her doctorate in social sciences from the University of Kassel in 2012 with her dissertation ‘Political Education in Plural Societies: Using the Anti-bias Approach to Challenge Oppression in Berlin and Bombay’. She holds an MA in Intercultural Education from the Free University of Berlin.
From 2011 to 2020, she worked as a programme officer at the ICYE International office in Berlin, where she was responsible for the planning, application, development and coordination of multilateral, EU-funded volunteer service and capacity-building projects with global project partners in youth work.
From 2006 to 2011, she worked four months a year for Berlinale Talents, the Berlin International Film Festival, where she was co-editor and author of articles for the Berlinale Talents magazine and coordinated the international workshop ‘Talent Press’ for young film journalists and film critics.
She spent five years as a programme officer in the cultural department of the Goethe-Institut (Max Mueller Bhavan) in Mumbai, India. She also works as a freelance author, editor and translator for cultural institutions and production companies such as pong Kröger and Scheffner GbR in Berlin.
Since 2003, she has been a trainer, facilitator and consultant for interdisciplinary, interactive workshops. Combining theory and practice, she teaches intercultural learning and diversity management, racism prevention, sustainable development, equality and human rights. She works on behalf of various international organisations and has led workshops in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
