Benjamin Kahlmeyer

Benjamin Kahlmeyer was born in Marburg in 1982. After completing his community service and spending time abroad in France, he studied philosophy and literature at the Free University of Berlin from 2002 to 2005. This was followed by internships in feature and documentary filmmaking, and work as an assistant director, sound engineer and production assistant. From 2005 to 2011, he studied documentary filmmaking at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. His graduation film, MEANWHILE IN MAMELODI, won awards at international film festivals. Benjamin now works as a freelance writer and filmmaker based in Berlin and as a media studies assistant at Leuphana University Lüneburg. As co-founder of the experimental web video platform HYPERBOLE TV, he was awarded the Grimme Online Award in 2015. In the same year, he received the Golden Dove at the international DOK Leipzig Film Festival for his short film EISEN.
