#volltemperament. Documentary film series about the musical state of Saxony-Anhalt

03.07.24

A documentary film series portrays Saxony-Anhalt in 24 sounds. The series #volltemperament, a joint production of Musikland Sachsen-Anhalt and the Halle-based film production company 42film, is supported by Werkleitz as part of the technical distribution.

A total of 24 short films are planned about musical protagonists, musical institutions, pioneering historical figures in music history or the choral and organ landscape of Saxony-Anhalt.
The films will be published on the YouTube channel and on the Musikland website. The first episodes about the John Cage project in Halberstadt and the Bach Lab in Köthen can already be seen.
The entire production of #volltemperament: 24 sounds from Saxony-Anhalt will be realized in 2024 and 2025.

Background to the project
One of the most influential and groundbreaking works in music history was created in Köthen: Johann Sebastian Bach completed The Well-Tempered Clavier in 1722 during a period of highly inspired creativity. There is probably no piano student in the world who has not played at least one of these 24 pieces themselves.
Bach pursued the idea of composing preludes and fugues for each key, once in a major key and once in a minor key. In this way, he wanted to show that all keys can be equally important. These 24 compositions are also outstanding for listeners because they offer a great variety of sounds, i.e. they are varied, complex and poetically composed. Each of the pieces can stand on its own, each key is on an equal footing with the others. #volltemperament takes up Bach's concept and makes it the compositional principle of the documentary film series.
