Mr. Manuel Muerte can captivate the audience in no time at all with his conjuring tricks. Muerte, who has been active as a magician and entertainer since 1986, is one of the world's top-class magicians. In addition to numerous international awards, he was honoured in Las Vegas in 1996 with the ‹Sarmoti Award› established by Siegfried and Roy. He won the first prize in the Comedy Magic section of the Magicians' World Championship in Yokohama (1994) and was vice world champion in close-up magic – the most prestigious magical discipline that does without false bottoms and darkened stages – at the Magicians' World Championship in Lisbon (2000). Muerte does not only perform as a solo artist. He has worked with musicians, artists, in film and theatre projects, and presents his most recent show, ‹Metaphysical Cabinet›, together with the multi-talented Berliner Angie Reed and his assistant Silvana Busoni, singer with the ‹Mobylettes›. Whether in commissioned performances or his own show, Muerte masters a wide range of magic: from the floating woman, to the ironical and enervating tranquillist number, up to the disappearing rabbit. What particularly distinguishes the programmes conceived by Mr. Muerte is the self-referential humour of the magic illusions. For the opening evening of the 6th Werkleitz Biennale, the magician will address the theme of ‹Common Property›.
