Was ist, wenn du warst?

Once dismissed as lifeless matter and waste products, the slag heaps of the Mansfeld region have been transformed into vibrant places. Plants and animals have colonized them, and residents have rediscovered them as hiking destinations, shooting ranges, or meeting places for culture and community. Since 2038, the annual Haldenfest has been held, during which the slag heaps, as symbols of mining, are circled in a festive procession.
But now the 19 largest of them are to be removed – including a slag heap, a potash heap, and 17 slate heaps. The highest reached up to 153 meters.
In a fictional narrative, Carla Lou West examines the slag heaps as monuments worthy of protection, thus highlighting the connection between the past, present, and future.
