Unearth – In Between States of Matter

The film focuses on material transformations, mutations, and generative processes, as well as mining machines as complex actors. It thus encourages a redefinition of life and non-life. Fragments of conversations recorded in the Russian Ural Mountains region are linked together. Mining machines are portrayed as hybrid beings and techno-fossils. A 3D animator who designs models of mining machines describes them as magical creatures. A PR team from a mining IoT and AI company presents its plans to replace human workers with robotization.
