This art piece was seeking my reflection

A series of 60 image sequences of my reflection in the artwork ‘Im Wahnzimmer’ by Anna & Bernhard Blume, 1984, was photographed and subsequently edited to function as a video stream. This video can be seen as a reappropriation of the Blumes’ artwork. Their large-format photographic prints were mounted on the wall of a museum. As I looked at them, my reflection began to interact subtly with the image, introducing a sense of movement into the work. In fact, movement was already very well expressed in Blume’s work, but now the movement came from an external source. Struggle, invitation, stimulus, drama, playfulness, mimesis, complementarity or restlessness are some of the words that describe the spontaneous interplay between the two surfaces – the images and my reflection wandering across them.
