The Shutdown

Adam Stafford’s debut film is based on his collaboration with screenwriter Alan Bissett, who describes what it was like to grow up in the immediate vicinity of the Grangemouth refinery, one of Europe’s largest and oldest petrochemical plants. “The Shutdown” paints a mesmerizing picture of how the gigantic industrial complex shapes daily life in the town of Falkirk in Scotland’s Central Lowlands: “By night it became Bladerunner.”
