A woman revisits her past, in which she tried to be a good wife and mother. Her mind is cut off from her emotional life. A doctor examines her brain. A boy inherits his mother’s despondency. “Short of Breath” is a disturbing, sensitive film collage exploring the themes of birth, death, sexuality and suicide. It’s like a punch in the stomach.
