POLYPHEM

POLYPHEM is the second chapter in a series of short experimental landscape films that reinterpret the stages of the journey of Homer's Odyssey and set them in the context of the anthropocene. Filmed in the only active bauxite tailings dam in Germany, POLYPHEM reimagines the myth of Polyphemus from Homer’s Odyssey within a contemporary landscape scarred by red mud, industrial aluminium waste.

Drawing on the metaphor of a blood-red, wounded landscape, the film is a visual meditation on human environmental violence and the presence of human impact on the landscape. The film takes us on a vertiginous journey through a landscape at once sublime and scarred, where myth and modernity merge, and beauty rises from destruction, transforming devastation into visual poetry.
