Excursion to Silberhöhe-Beesen and Radewell
Tours of the churches and conversation with pastor Hans-Dieter Schubert

The excursion will lead us to two former village churches that today are part of the city of Halle (Saale), located on the city's southern periphery. St. Wenzelskirche in Radewell and its former satellite chapel St. Elisabethkirche in Silberhöhe-Beesen are among the oldest churches in Halle (Saale); these Romanesque churches were built around 1184.
The now protestant churches and their small congregations have been looked after since 1992 by pastor Hans-Dieter Schubert. He will briefly introduce both churches, speak about how they are being used today, and about renovations. He will also report on the restoration of St. Elizabethkirche during the construction of the second large housing project 'Silberhöhe' in Halle (Saale) from 1979 - 1989. Mr. Schubert will speak about the role and practice of church work in the GDR, and about the completely changed situation today, when his congregation grapples with the demographic situation, unemployment, and a focus on money.
