Influenza / Verboten. Für alle

Jeroen Jongeleen's sticker and graffiti actions counter the standardised and commercialised inner-city spaces with subtle interventions. Under the label "Influenza", Jeroen Jongeleen continuously develops new signs, figures and texts. He often makes direct reference to the hegemony of architectural structures and public advertising displays, and shifts or supplements their visual codes. Within the frame of his project "The Art of Urban Warfare" (2003), he uses the Internet as an interactive platform to initiate the worldwide dissemination of an open source game idea: according to flexible guidelines, stencils are to be produced and used in the respective cities. Freed from the recognisable style of the originator, an independent, networked and collective work is engendered. Generally, Jeroen Jongeleen grasps his work not only as an activist strategy, but also as an examination of the possibilities of artistic expression in public space.

For the 6th Werkleitz Biennale, Jeroen Jongeleen will produce, next to "repainted graffiti paintings", a new series of stickers under the title "Influenza / verboten. für alle".
