In Between Identities

In the film In Between Identities, we observe characters in a virtual world, choreographed and directed by the filmmaker, in a somewhat voyeuristic manner. We become part of the game of his own and simulated identity. In these strange moments, our innermost desires and curiosity reach extremes that we would otherwise never experience. The short film In Between Identities develops an intuitive way of telling animated stories, doing without a script or storyboard. The computer game itself offers a wonderful range of possibilities. It is a clearly structured application, but one that can repeatedly deliver surprisingly intuitive moments when used. Within this limited, programmed environment, a new freedom of expression emerges outside of otherwise lived realities. With the short film In Between Identities, Aleksandar Radan has created his own language for telling stories with virtual or animated characters. We observe the characters in the diffuse gray area between the identity of the player and the identity of the character being played, who move there in the simulated space of possibilities.
