Im Blickpunkt: Zwei Generationen Leuna-Arbeiter [In Focus: Two Generations of Leuna Workers]

DDR 1966

Originally aired on 30 April 1966, this East German television broadcast profiles two generations of the Jost family, both of which were closely associated with the Leuna facility. Born in 1902, Karl Jost was a member of the German Communist Party prior to World War II and of the SED, the ruling party of communist East Germany. He helped rebuild the chemical plant, which was destroyed during the war. At the beginning of the film we see Jost walking around Plastik-Park in Leuna. His younger son Achim is shown at his construction office in Leuna I, where he worked as a project engineer. His older son Herbert was the deputy director of construction at Leuna II. The sons show their father the new facilities, which are already in operation. Father Jost remarks that everything that he fought for in life has now come to fruition here.
