Talks & Short Film Screenings at WUK Theatre
The demand from the Peasants' Wars that “a day laborer should be worthy of their wage” calls for an adjustment of rent in order not to devalue labor. Today, foreign labor is often indispensable in agriculture to manage physically demanding tasks in the fields in a cost-effective manner. But the link between migration and labor extends far beyond agriculture – whether through tax agreements, personal networks, or political decisions.
One discussion focuses on artistic work with and about migration, exploring the tension between visibility and value creation. The short film program features works by Želimir Žilnik, Elke Sasse, Maithu Bùi, s.a.b.a., and Larry Achiampong, addressing the migration of labor and the associated social, political, and cultural challenges. Anita Heindlmaier (sociologist, University of Vienna) and Alexandra Voivozeanu (migration and labor expert, PECO Institute e.V.) will host a 'Fact Check' on labor and migration, shedding light on current data and political contexts.
All talks will be held in German; films will be shown in German or English with german subtitles.
In cooperation with WUK Theater Quartier.
