The film, produced by the Leuna amateur film studio, is set in Leuna's Plastik-Park. In 1962, the Moritzburg State Gallery decided to exhibit part of its collection of sculptures by seventeen artists from the GDR in the Saale river park in the town of Leuna. From then on, visitors to the park were offered not only a place of relaxation, but also intellectual stimulation. In this sense, “Gedanken im Park” follows an invisible first-person narrator who, upon seeing the bronze sculptures – Heinz Beberniß's “Chemiewerker” (1960), Waldemar Grzimek's “Schwimmerin” (Swimmer, 1959) or Fritz Cremer's “Der Stürzende” (The Falling Man, 1955) from his Buchenwald group – and reflects on the socialist image of workers and humanity and the anti-fascist foundations of the “new, peaceful Germany.”
