Fox 7D (image 6)

DE 2010

Image 6 from the series Fox 7D shows illustrations of a fox at the edge of a wood in the manner of popular, local geography books. The Jacquard weaving acquires spatial depth when the viewer dons 3D glasses. The 3D anaglyph images, made by overlapping displaced contours using complementary colours, are a double reference to nostalgia and illusion. The anaglyphs were among the first images to generate the illusion of 3D space and had their heyday in the period from the 50s to the 70s of the last century. Transferring this technique onto the Jacquard loom, a symbol of the industrial revolution, creates an intelligent analogy between industrialised and digitalised images. This multiple play with deceptive imagery and its barely perceptible surface is heightened by the fact that the extraordinarily alert-seeming animal shape from the source photo is in reality a stuffed fox.
