The artist, author and filmmaker Martin Zawadzki conceived the video installation FLUCHT based on conversations with refugees who live or lived in a former hostel in Berlin Friedrichshain.
The cinematic work was based on a documentary approach, i.e. one enters an open, uncontrolled situation and embarks on a joint journey of discovery, the aim and result of which gradually emerges from what is found, experienced and discovered.
The result consists of the images and conversations shown in the video installation, which pursue a dialogical principle via several projectors. Images run parallel to the interviews, influencing and contextualizing each other. In addition, a documentary film has been created from all the visual material, which, in contrast to the video installation, is narrated linearly and condenses the experience into a story. The video installation and the film refer to the same place and the same people, and yet a different picture with completely different facets emerges.
