Disco Beast

Disco Beast is a seamlessly looping 3D-animated video installation that follows a psychedelic unicorn as it walks through eerily uninhabited commercial interiors—abandoned shopping malls, sterile hotel lobbies, and glistening retail stores. Drawing from the iconography of medieval unicorn tapestries, particularly The Unicorn in Captivity, the work reimagines the mythical creature as a symbol of contemporary entrapment, caught between spectacle and surveillance, fantasy and commodification. By merging this historical reference with the unicorn’s saturation in internet aesthetics and consumer branding, Disco Beast constructs a new mythology around the fears and anxieties of the digital-age. The continuous loop reinforces a sense of cyclical stasis—suggesting a futile search for transcendence within environments designed to seduce, pacify, and contain. Through hypnotic imagery and slow, dreamlike pacing, the work invites viewers to consider the boundaries between fantasy and reality in a culture shaped by consumerism and technology.
