The installation The Future of Food was created by Clemens Stachel and Wolfgang Konrad for the Museum of Bread and Art in Ulm. We’re delighted to present this work in Halle as part of the Werkleitz Festival 2025.

By the year 2050, the Earth will be home to around ten billion people. Most of them will live in towns and cities. By then, the world’s climate will have continued to warm up, and the amount of fertile land will have shrunk even further. In the face of these conditions, will the global community still be able to adequately feed humanity– especially when more than 800 million people today already suffer from life-threatening starvation?
The issue of food brings together some of the most pressing challenges of our time: How can we slow the pace of climate change? How can we overcome the economic divide between the Global North and South? What might an efficient, resource-conscious agricultural system look like – one that can provide healthy nutrition for ten billion people? What new technologies can we harness? And not least: how should we act as individuals? After all, our daily diet is directly linked to the problems facing humanity.
This documentary-artistic installation brings together voices from a wide range of disciplines – natural and cultural sciences, agriculture and economics, theory and practice. Divided into several episodes, these experts initiate a debate around one central question: How will we feed the world in the future?

Werkleitz gratefully acknowledges the Museum of Bread and Art Supporters Association and the fiat panis foundation for their permission to show The Future of Food in Halle.
