Diario de una pastora urbana (‘Diary of an Urban Shepherd’)

Salka Tiziana’s film Todos los sonidos entran adentro (‘All Sounds Within’, 2022) is an essayistic portrait of Casa de Campo (Madrid’s largest urban park) and a flock of sheep grazing there, along with their shepherds from the Los Apisquillos cooperative. Although the sheep know their way through the trees, their route is occasionally blocked by branches blown down by a storm. At times, only their bleating can be heard; at others, we hear visitors to the park and the ambient noise of the city. A van arrives to collect lambs. Shepherdess Julia Ábalos Reznak, a member of Los Apisquillos, writes in her notebook. Her poetic lines are interwoven throughout Tiziana’s observational film, which is being shown here for the first time in an exhibition.
The jointly conceived installation Diario de una pastora urbana (‘Diary of an Urban Shepherdess’) features Todos los sonidos entran adentro alongside a selection of Ábalos Reznak’s notebooks in the model room of the ZNS. The display cases also include items from the collection relating to sheep as farm animals as well as botanical specimens of flora from central Europe. A specially produced reader containing texts and drawings by Ábalos Reznak is available for festival visitors to take home.
