Ann Al Sho'our Bel Berouda (On Feeling Cold)

Women from Cairo discuss their experiences of sexual development, parental upbringing, first love, marriage ceremony, life alone, and expectations imposed on them from without. They all experience their bodies as social bodies and their desire is in equal measure informed by and independent of this experience. Sexuality is not bound to gender identity, but rather a living part of the social process that itself generates identity. The film is not a complaint but instead a respectful and empathic attempt to grasp this complexity.
